Daniel Chakwamba Banda

Abstract / Portraiture / Installation Art

Daniel Chakwamba Banda’s artistic journey has been shaped by years of exploration, both in technique and in the stories he seeks to tell. With a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, he has experimented with a wide range of media, including photography, charcoal, plaster relief, and acrylic. Over time, he has also developed a distinctive practice of working with coffee, using its earthy tones and textures to create abstract forms and cultural expressions rooted deeply in his heritage. Although his most recent works are primarily acrylic on canvas, abstraction has always remained at the core of his creative process.

The human body, an enduring subject studied by countless great artists before him, continues to captivate his curiosity. He is drawn to the challenge of transforming the human form into abstract compositions, shifting between what is visible and what is felt. His goal is not only to depict the outer figure, but to reveal the human presence within. Capturing that inner essence through abstraction is both his greatest challenge and his most meaningful artistic pursuit.

Daniel Chakwamba Banda is an art teacher at the International School of Lusaka, where he has served for the past sixteen years and now leads as the Head of the Creative Arts Department.
